Perez Picks Up Three On “Moving Day” At Valero

Pat Perez picked up a few strokes on “moving day” at the Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio on Saturday. After going 68-71 on Thursday and Friday, a third round 69 has Perez eight-under and four off the lead entering Sunday.

Perez got off to a solid start, birdying the par-five second, sinking a 21-footer to get to one-under on the day. From there, four straight pars before another birdie on the par-three seventh, capped with a 12-foot drop-in.

A setback on the par-five eighth when Perez, three-putting to double-bogey and dropping back to even on the day, though it was short-lived.

Another birdie fell on the par-four ninth, courtesy of a 269-yard drive to the left fairway and a well-placed approach, leaving Perez a ten-footer.

One-under at the turn, Perez picked up a few but gave some back. A bogey on the par-four eleventh was followed by a birdie on the par-four twelfth, tapping in an eight-footer.

From there, a par on thirteen—knocking down a clutch five-footer—before birding the par-five fourteenth—a makable 17″ tap-in.

Perez bogeyed the par-four fifteenth, but much like Thursday’s round, responded strong over the final three holes. After a five-foot par put on the par three sixteenth, Perez dropped back-to-back birdies to close three-under on the afternoon.

A three-footer on seventeen was followed by a perfectly tapped 12-footer for an exclamation point on a hard fought Saturday.

Perez enters Sunday’s round eight-under and four strokes off the lead. The final group will be Steven Bowditch (-12), Andrew Loupe (-10) and Matt Kuchar (-9). Perez will be in the second-to-last group with Kevin Na (-7) and Daniel Summerhays (-6)
