Perez: 71-68 Makes Cut At Shell Houston Open

Pat Perez fired a bogey-free second round 68 at the Shell Houston Open, improving on Thursday’s 71 and getting to five-under on the week as the cut moved to minus-four by day’s end Friday. 

Starting on No. 10, Perez racked up three consecutive pars before the day’s first birdie; coming on the par-five thirteenth. After hitting his tee shot 286 yards to the left fairway, he followed with a 243-yard shot to the right rough before a 70-yard third shot, leaving a 15-inch tap-in for four. 

Five more pars followed; a handful of long birdie opportunities coming up short, before picking up another stroke on No. 1. Perez hit his tee shot 258 yards to the left fairway and his second shot 139 yards to the green, leaving a 28-foot birdie opportunity which he drained for three. 

Back-to-back pars followed before a birdie-birdie run on four and five. On the par-five fourth, Perez hit his tee shot 272 yards to the right fairway and followed with a 221-yard shot to the right fairway. His third shot went 66 yards to the green, leaving an 11-footer for four. 

On the par-four fifth, Perez hit a 279-yard drive to the right fairway, a 187-yard second shot to the green and rolled in an 18-footer to get to four-under on the day. Four consecutive pars closed out the round, en route to a second round 68, leaving Perez T41st and seven strokes off the lead entering the weekend. 

Perez averaged 283.8 yards driving distance, was 75-percent in greens-in-regulation, was 57.14-percent in driving accuracy and -0.161 in strokes gained. 

Third round tee times have been announced and Perez will got off No. 10 at 10:50 a.m. CT where he’ll be paired with Michael Thompson and Tom Hoge.
