Opening Round 73 For Perez At Wells Fargo

Pat Perez fired an opening round 73 at Quail Hollow on Thursday at the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte.

Perez had the early draw, started on No. 10 and was even at the turn after an early bogey-par-birdie stretch. On the front nine, Perez remained consistent outside of a late bogey, pushing him to plus-one on the day.

The day’s first hole was the par-five tenth, with Perez’s tee shot going 277 yards to the fairway bunker, leaving him 304 yards from the hole. His second shot; a 155-yarder to the right rough, set up a third shot that still left him 77 feet from the hole.

Perez was on the green in four, leaving himself a 19-incher for a solid opening par.

Back-to-back pars ensued, with a missed birdie opportunity on the par-four twelfth as Perez’s second shot flew 151 yards to the green, setting up 14-footer for three and eventually knocking down a two-footer for four.

The par-three thirteenth brought the first bogey of the day. Perez hit his tee shot 200 yards to the right fairway, where he chipped onto the green and faced an eight-foot par putt that rolled long and wide, eventually rolling in a five-footer for four.

A 13-foot birdie opportunity on the par-four fourteenth also rolled wide, leaving an eight-inch tap in, but Perez got it back on the par-five fifteenth—almost rolling in a 75-footer for eagle and settling for the three-foot birdie tap-in.

Even on the day, Perez would knock down nine consecutive pars before a frustrating bogey on the par-five seventh. After hitting his tee shot 272 yards into the water, Perez took a drop in the right rough, hitting his third shot 165 yards to the right fairway.

Perez was on the green in four, setting up a 16-foot save for par, but the putt ran wide and left a two-footer for bogey before back-to-back pars closed out the round of 73.

Perez averaged 280.50 yards driving distance on the day, was 71.43-percent in driving accuracy, hit 77.78-percent in greens-in-regulation, was 50% in scrambling and -1.50 in strokes gained putting.

The plus-one finish put Perez at T88th going into Friday afternoon’s round. Even is currently T64th, while one-under is T45th. Seven-under currently leads, with two players at six-under and seven at minus-five.

Friday’s tee time is set for 12:30 p.m. ET off of No. 1, where Perez will again be paired with Blake Adams and John Peterson
