Pat Perez: Opening Round 68 At The Barclays

Pat Perez knocked down four birdies at Plainfield Country Club on Thursday, but a late bogey resulted in an opening round 68 at The Barclays in Edison, New Jersey as the FedExCup Playoffs are officially underway.

As Thursday draws to a close, Perez sits at T19 and three strokes off the lead. Friday’s tee time is set for 12:22 p.m. ET, where Perez will again be paired with Nick Watney and Brendon Todd.

Perez went off at 7:42 a.m. ET in the opening round, started on the back nine and was two under through three. Perez rolled in a nine-footer for birdie on the par-three eleventh and another on the par-five twelfth.

After hitting his tee shot 314 yards to the right fairway and his second shot 210 yards also right, Perez knocked his third shot 52 yards to the green, setting up a 6’6″ putt for four.

The day’s first bogey came on the par-four thirteenth where Perez found the right and the left roughs, before sending his third shot 124 yards to the green. Staring down a 14-footer for par, Perez left it three inches short and tapped in for five.

Four consecutive pars followed before Perez rolled in a birdie on the par-four eighteenth—his best look at birdie prior to coming on the par-four fifteenth where he left a 17-footer a few inches short. Perez wound up getting it back on No. 18, dropping in a 15-footer, getting him back to two-under on the day.

Perez opened the front nine with five consecutive pars—his closest look at birdie coming on No. 1 where a six-footer for three rolled long and wide, leaving a three-foot tap-in for par.

The par-three sixth marked Perez’s final birdie of the day, getting him to three-under as he rolled in an 8’4″ putt after hitting his tee shot 169 yards to the green, but one final bogey on the par-four eighth gave one back.

Perez averaged 278 yards driving distance, was 57.14-percent in driving accuracy, hit 83.33-percent greens-in-regulation, was 33.33-percent in scrambling and 1.57 in strokes gained putting.
