Third Round 70 For Perez At Riviera

Pat Perez weathered the storm on Saturday at Riviera Country Club, putting together a third round 70 at the Northern Trust Open. Perez currently sits at one-under and T19th entering Sunday’s final round, seven strokes off the lead at one-under.

Perez opened with four consecutive pars before birdying the par-four fifth. After hitting his tee shot 268 yards to the left fairway, Perez knocked his second shot 164 yards to the green and knocked down the ten-footer for three. 

Three consecutive pars followed, including a a ten-foot par putt on No. 7 and a brilliant save on the par-four eighth. After hitting his tee shot 265 yards to the left rough and taking a drop, Perez stuck his third shot to nine feet and dropped a clutch par putt. On the par-three ninth, a 291-yard tee shot was followed up by a 21-foot birdie putt. 

Perez to three under on the day after a birdie on the par-five eleventh—draining the 11-footer for three—and went on to par five consecutive holes before a rough finish. Perez dropped a six-footer on No. 12, a 12-footer on No. 13 and a four-footer on No. 16, remaining three-under with two to play. 

Perez bogeyed the par-five seventeenth after a 36-foot birdie attempt rolled downhill and stopped 12-feet past the hole. Perez knocked the par attempt to within two feet and tape in for six. On the par-four eighteenth, an 11-foot par attempt lipped out, leaving Perez an eight-incher for five.

Perez averaged 289.7 yards driving distance, 47.62 in driving accuracy percentage and 50-percent in greens-in-regulation.

Sunday’s final round tee time is set for 9:17 a.m. where Perez will go off No. 1 with Hideki Matsuyama and Michael Putnam
