Perez Cards Second Round 73 At Riviera

Pat Perez fired a second round 73 at the Northern Trust Open and Riviera Country Club proved a challenge, with the cut moving to plus-three by day’s end.

Perez parred No. 10 and followed up with a birdie on the par-five eleventh. After hitting his tee shot 300 yards to the left rough, Perez followed up with a 271-yard approach to the green, 49 feet from the hole. An eagle-attempt came up short, leaving a four-footer for four.

After knocking down a six-foot par putt on No. 12, Perez bogeyed the par-four thirteenth, missing a seven-footer for three and setting up a two-footer for five.

Back-to-back pars followed before a two-hole birdie run. Perez drained a ten-footer on the   par-three sixteenth and capitalized on the par-five seventeenth, hitting his tee shot 310 yards to the right fairway and followed-up with a 221-yard second shot, also to the right fairway.

From there, Perez hit a 79-yard shot to the green and knocked down the seven-footer for three.

Perez parred No. 18, but struggled at the turn and gave back three strokes over the span of two holes. After bouncing off the back of the green with a 233-yard shot that wound up in the right rough, Perez sent his third shot over the green and into the left rough. After his chip shot rolled ten feet past the hole, the par putt sailed past and left an 17-incher for six.

On No. 2 Perez hit his tee shot 269 yards to the left rough and followed up with a 167-yard second shot to the front left green side bunker. A 15-foot bogey putt sailed long leaving a 7-incher for six.

Backsliding, Perez immediately found a way to stop the bleeding on the par-four third, hitting his tee shot 284 yards to the right rough, his second shot 135 yards to the left rough and chipping in from 26 feet out, getting back to even on the day.

Perez parred the next four holes, including a brilliant save on the par-four seventh. After hitting his tee shot 254 yards to the fairway bunker, Perez got out of the sand and sent his second shot 114 yards to the right fairway and his third, 59 yards to the green, where he went on to drop a 26-footer for four.

From there, back-to-back bogeys ended the round on a sour note, a five-footer lipping out on No. 8, followed by a 28-footer rolling wide on the par-four ninth, leaving a one-foot tap-in for five.

Perez averaged 290 yards driving distance on in round two, 50-percent in driving accuracy and 47.22-percent in greens-in-regulation.

Saturday’s tee times are yet to be announced as Friday’s round was suspended due to darkness. Round Two will resume at 7:00 a.m. PT and tee times for Round Three are expected to be set between 7:45 a.m. and 9:50 a.m., with Perez sitting at T26th entering the weekend.
