Three-Under When Darkness Fell At Riviera

A late tee time in the opening round at the Northern Trust Open will have Pat Perez back at Riviera Country Club bright and early Friday morning.

That said, sprits will be flying high as the hot streak continues. Perez is two off the lead and three-under with one to play, entering the second round in great position to make a pre-weekend run.

After opening the event with a bogey on the par-four tenth, Perez responded with a birdie on the par-five eleventh.

A 288-yard drive to the right fairway was followed by a 274-yard shot to the front green side bunker. A quick up-and-down was capped with a six-foot birdie put, bringing Perez back to even after two.

Back-to-back pars came on twelve and thirteen before another setback on the par-three fourteenth. An almost-10-foot birdie putt went wide, leaving Perez a two-footer for bogey, but from there, the round’s turning point.

Perez strung together three straight birdies late on the back nine, getting to two-under at the turn.

An 18-foot birdie putt fell on the par-four fifteenth, followed by a 13-footer on the par-three sixteenth. On seventeen, a 237-yard drive to the right fairway left Perez 77 yards from the hole and after a solid second shot, a ten-foot birdie opp dropped.

Four straight pars ensued before a bogey on the par-three fourth, but Perez got two back with birdies on on seven and eight before play was suspended due to darkness.

Friday’s tee time is set for 8:25 a.m. PT. Perez is again paired with Aaron Baddeley and D.H. Lee. Follow the live leaderboard, PP’s scorecard and ShotTracker all week from Riviera.
