Rough Second Round For Perez At Riviera

Twenty-six straight rounds of golf over the course of 97 were played above par for Pat Perez, until round two at the Northern Trust Open. A rough back nine put the veteran at 72 on the day and left him one-under on the event entering the weekend at Riviera.

Perez got off to a rough start, finishing the final hole of the opening round after player was suspended due to darkness on Thursday. The result—a bogey on nine for an official opening round 69.

Friday’s round got off to a solid start, going par-birdie-par. Perez bogeyed the par-three four, but responded with back-to-back birdies on the par-four fifth and par-three sixth. Two-under on the day, Perez rode that through the turn, closing with three straight pars on seven, eight and nine.

Things became a bit undone over a five-hole stretch, starting with a bogey on the par-four tenth. Perez followed up with back-to-back pars, but bogeys on the par-four thirteenth and par-three fourteenth dropped him to one-over on the day.

Perez closed with four straight pars, unable to capitalize, despite playing the same four holes three-under on Thursday, with clutch birdie putts on fifteen, sixteen and seventeen. He is one-under on the tournament with the current cut-line sitting at one-over.
