Opening Round 71 For Perez At Memorial

Pat Perez fired a 71 at Muirfield Village Golf Club in the opening round of the Memorial on Thursday. Perez started on No. 10 and strung together five consecutive pars before the day’s first birdie on the par-five fifteenth.

After hitting his drive 273 yards into the left rough, Perez punched it 150 yards to the left fairway and put his third shot on the green, leaving himself a 22-footer for birdie.

Perez parred sixteen and seventeen, but bogeyed eighteen and hit the turn at even on the day. Perez hit his drive 309 yards into the left rough and followed up with a 133-yard second shot into the rough, as well. Perez put his third shot on the green, but pushed an 11-foot par putt and knocked in a 14-incher for a five.

The front nine proved an exercise in consistency, with Perez carding eight pars—highlighted by a birdie on the par-four third. After hitting 264 yards to the right fairway, Perez put his second shot on the green and left himself an 11-footer for birdie, which he dropped.

Perez finished one-under on the day and averaged 286 yards in driving distance, 64.29% in driving accuracy and 77.78% in greens-in-regulation.

Friday’s second round tee time is set for 12:21 p.m. local where Perez will go off No. 1, again paired with Bo Van Pelt and Roberto Castro.
