Opening Round 69 For Pat Perez At Glen Abbey

Pat Perez carded four birdies and one bogey en route to an opening round 69 at the RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Ontario on Thursday, leaving him five strokes off the lead as the afternoon tee times go off.

Perez got busy early, with back-to-back birdies. After opening with a par, Perez hit his tee shot 281 yards to the left rough, his second shot 139 yards to the right fairway and his third shot 111 yards to the green, setting up the ten-footer for birdie on the par-five.

On the par-four third, a 305-yard tee shot to the left rough, followed by a 146-yard second shot to the left rough, where Perez holed-out from 15-yards and was two-under after three.

Back-to-back pars ensued—where Perez missed a 12-footer for birdie on the par-three fourth—before a bogey on the par-four sixth. Stuck in the right rough, Perez hit his second shot 164 yards into the right rough, as well—his third shot going 34 feet to the green and leaving an eight footer for par which rolled wide.

From there, three consecutive pars—missing a seven-footer for birdie on the par-three seventh—before carding the day’s third birdie on the par-four tenth.

Perez hit his tee shot 308 yards to the left fairway and his second shot 126 yards to the green, setting up a ten-footer which he rolled in for three.

Six consecutive pars followed—Perez’s best look at birdie coming on the par-four eleventh where he sent a 12-footer long and wide, setting up the two-foot tap-in for par.

On the three remaining par-fives—No. 13, No. 16 and No. 18—Perez faced a 20-footer, a 40-footer and a five-footer—none of which fell for birdie. Perez did nab one final birdie on the par-four seventeenth, hitting his second shot 163 yards to the green and leaving a one-foot tap-in for three, getting to three-under on the day.

Perez averaged 285 yards driving distance, was 57.14-percent in driving accuracy, 66.67-percent in greens-in-regulation, 83.33-percent in scrambling and -1.25 in strokes gained putting.

Perez will be back at it at 12:35 p.m. ET on Friday, going off of No. 10 where he’ll again be paired with Luke Guthrie and Alex Prugh.
