Perez Ontario-Bound For RBC Canadian Open

Pat Perez took in the excitement of Opening Day at Del Mar race track last week—enjoying down time with family and friends in San Diego—but is back to work and playing three of the next four; starting with this week’s RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey in Ontario.

While Perez is a long-time fan of this event and track, his history in Ontario has been either feast or famine. Perez has played Glen Abbey a dozen times in his career, where he’s missed five cuts—but has also notched finish of T50 (2011), T24 (2009), T65 (2005), T14 (2004), T32 (2003) and T12 (2002) his rookie season. His best finish to date; T10 (2007).

Perez enters this week 57th in the official FedExCup rankings (yet to be updates due to the The Open’s Monday finish); looking to find that pre-playoff groove. Perez recently finished T55 at the John Deere Classic and T57 at the Memorial. Sandwiched between the two; T22 at the Greenbrier Classic.

Prior to that, a six-event stretch where Perez finished no lower than T26 (RBC Heritage) and has high as T5 (Colonial). He’s played 20 events this season and has one missed cut since October 2014.

Regarding this week’s track, Glen Abbey is a par 72 measuring 7,273 yards. The course opened in 1977 and was the first solo design by Jack Nicklaus. This marks the 27th Open helped at Glen Abbey and sports a back nine featuring “Valley Holes”—starting with a tee shot at No. 11 to a fairway over 60 feet below. It’s soon followed by Sixteen Mile Creek for three holes, before climbing out at No. 16.

This week’s charity is the Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada, which operates 14 homes in Canada, helping families of seriously ill or injured children with a place to live while their child receives treatment. Over the years, this event has raised over $45M for charity.

Tee times will be announced later this week, with PatPerezGolf.com providing event and social media coverage throughout the weekend.

Golf Channel will cover this week’s event, with weekend coverage provided by CBS from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET.
