FedExCup Underway Starting With Barclays

PGA Tour professional Pat Perez is back in action this week, New Jersey-bound for the opening round of the FedExCup Playoffs at The Barclays. Ridgewood Country Club will host this week’s event.

Perez sat out last week’s Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina having flown from the PGA Championship to Rancho Santa Fe, California for his family’s Operation Game On charity tournament.

OGO supports combat-injured troops, by introducing them and outfitting them for the game of golf. Lifestyle website theCHIVE is partnering with Perez moving forward and participated in last week’s event.

Perez enters this week’s event 74th in the FedExCup standings, which earns him a spot in this week’s event, as well as the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston next week. He’ll have to climb into the Top 70 to play in the BMW Championship in Colorado two weeks from now and Top 30 to get a coveted slot in the Tour Championship in Atlanta mid-September.

The FedExCup Playoffs were announced late 2005 and went into effect the 2006 season PGA Tour season.

Perez’s overall history in the event has been tepid—usually the result of a slow start at The Barclays—which will be played at Ridgewood for the third time since 2006, having also been held at Plainfield Country Club, Bethpage Black and Liberty National.

Perez missed the cut at Ridgewood in 2008 and finished T60th in 2010.

There were also missed cuts at Westchester (2007) and Liberty (2009, 2013) and a W/D at Plainfield (2011). Perez’s best finish at The Barclays came at Bethpage (2012) where he wrapped T38th. From there a T26th finish in Boston got him to the third round and into the BWM Championship.

Perez is headed from Scottsdale to Paramus this morning, where he’ll head directly to the range to begin this week’s routine. Tune in all week for the latest from The Barclays.
