Perez: Opening Round 75 At The Barclays

Pat Perez fired a 75 at Ridgefield Country Club in the opening round of the FedExCup Playoffs at The Barclays on Thursday. Two double bogeys derailed what was otherwise a consistent round for Perez—who fought adversity early and rebounded strong, but struggled down the stretch.

Picking up a quick par on No. 10, Perez found trouble on his second hole of the day—the par-four eleventh. After hitting his tee shot 273 yards to the left fairway, Perez wound up in the right rough twice and was on in four, knocking down a four-footer for six.

Plus-two after two, Perez went par-birdie-bogey-birdie over the next four holes.

A 301-yard drive on the par-five-thirteenth and 206-yard second shot to the right fairway was followed by a 109-yard third shot which found the green and left him a seven-footer for four. On the par-three fifteenth Perez stuck his tee shot within two feet of the hole, leaving a tap-in for birdie.

Perez parred the final three holes of the back nine and picked up his third and final birdie of the day on No. 1—a par-four. After a 280-yard tee shot, Perez stuck his second shot on the green and left himself a 15-footer for three, getting him back to even on the day.

From there, a handful of pars and and three more setbacks that cost Perez four strokes—bogeys on four and five and another double on the par-three eighth.

After hitting his tee shot 215 yards to the left rough, Perez’s second shot wound up in the right side green bunker. Shot three found the green, setting up a 53-footer for bogey. Perez wound up dropping a 17-incher for double.

With an early Thursday tee time for Perez, half the field is yet to take a crack at Ridgefield. As of 12:30 p.m. ET, Perez is currently nine strokes off the lead and T75th.

Friday’s tee time is set for 12:31 p.m. ET, where Perez will need to go low in order to see the weekend in Paramus.
