Opening Round 69 At John Deere Classic

Pat Perez shot a bogey-free opening round 69 at TPC Deere Run on Thursday; knocking down two birdies en route to 69.

Perez opened with three consecutive pars before picking up a stroke on the par-four fourth. After hitting his tee shot 302 yards to the right fairway and his second shot 137 yards to the green, Perez rolled in a 16-footer getting him to one-under after four.

Eight consecutive pars followed; with a few birdie looks that didn’t fall—a 12-footer on the par-four sixth and an 11-footer on the par-four ninth, his best opportunities.

The day’s second and final birdie occurred on the par-four thirteenth after Perez drove his tee shot 275 yards to the fairway bunker, his second shot 148 yards to the green and rolling in an 11-footer, getting to two-under on the day—where he’d remain.

Perez was unable to capitalize on any of TPC Deere Run’s three par-fives on Thursday—facing birdie putts of 26 feet on No. 2, 13 feet on No. 10 and 18-feet on No. 17—his closest run coming up nine inches short on the day’s second hole.

Perez averages 281 yards driving distance, 50-percent in driving accuracy, hit 83.33-percent greens-in-regulation, was 100-percent in scrambling and -0.32 in strokes gained putting.

As of 1:45 p.m. CT, Perez is currently six strokes off the lead and T29th. Friday’s tee time is set of 1:20 p.m. CT, where he’ll again be paired with Vaughn Taylor and Blake Adams
