Perez Makes Cut Regarding FedExCup Playoffs

71-74 wasn’t enough to stay alive at The Barclays in New Jersey last week, but it kept Pat Perez in the Top 100 – the necessary number needed to earn a spot in this week’s Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston.

Perez entered the FedExCup Playoffs ranked 89th and lost six spots after missing the cut in round one. Perez got off to a blazing start round one, three-under after seven and T4th when a weather delay rolled in. Resuming play hours later, the mojo was gone and Perez bogeyed three of the next five holes, back at even with six to play.

Perez went on to nab a birdie on the par-four fifteenth, but gave a shot back on the par-four eighteenth, ending the day with a 71 and long road to par; four birdies, four bogeys, fourteen pars.

Friday’s round started with a bogey on ten, but Perez got the shot back with a birdie on the par-four twelfth. A bogey on fifteen had Perez one-over at the turn, but a double on the par-four fifth left Perez three-over with four to play.

Perez went on to bogey seven, birdie and and par nine, finishing the day three-over when the cut was even.

Frustrating as round one played out, Perez lived to see another day, slipping only six spots and earning a round two slot this week.

Tournament action kicks off Friday in Boston, with the event running through Labor Day on Monday.

Perez tees it up at 9:04am on Friday and 1:34pm on Saturday and is paired with Erik Compton and Stuart Appleby, both of which played their way into this week’s Deutsche Bank Championship last week. Compton was previously 117th and jumped to 94th while Appleby climbed from 123rd to 96th.
